Balcony Jr 10.16.10

The following photos are from a recent trip to Balcony Jr. on Elk Ridge HERE (map), HERE (rope)

Thee first three photos show J.K. climbing a harder (5.11+ ?) line through the overhangs at the center of the wall. He later completed a variation finish to the right as well.

The next 5 photos depict a couple different routes nearer the left end of the outcropping in the 5.8-10 range HERE.

The last two pics are of the relatively shorter right end of the crag, on & around an arete (5.8-9). If you venture to this section, please be aware of a large flake at the top which may just be *resting* there...

I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but suffice to say that Balcony "Jr" is in no way the lesser of its namesake in terms of size, quality or grade.

Way way way back when Jeff and I started climbing here we knew we were onto something special. So, doing the obvious thing for some weak newbs onto a great new cliff, we took the facetious route and gave it the misleading "Jr." title. I mean who would bother checking out a cliff with a "Jr." description ;), ha. As you have shown, it's no junior to Balcony rock. Glad you enjoyed. Many thanks for your great posts. It looks like you guys had beautiful weather.
