Winter 2010 - Installment 1

It's cold, WINDY, and beautiful in the Harpers Ferry gorge right now. Below are some photos from Monday (12/27/10) afternoon.
It's been so cold that the Potomac River is beginning to
freeze over.

Balcony Jr. forms ice on cold years. It isn't climbable. It's more of a decoration.

There is a boulder about 25 yards west of Balcony Jr. that has the above engraving on it. I have never been able to figure out what it means. I know the park service is aware of the engraving but I don't know if they have interpreted its meaning. CA and then a R above a colon : followed by STRUTH 1845 with a period (.)
If anyone is a history buff and can figure out what this is from please post up.
