 It's been so cold that the Potomac River is beginning to freeze over.




 Balcony Jr. forms ice on cold years. It isn't climbable. It's more of a decoration.

Indy and his band of Maryland climbing afficianados have been climbing at Balcony Jr. They have been exploring new lines  and have come up with some good ones with climbing difficulty anywhere from 5.6 to 5.11.

He reports that Balcony Rock continues to see climbers. They visit it for the great low to mid range difficulty climbs that it offers.

Thee first three photos show J.K. climbing a harder (5.11+ ?) line through the overhangs at the center of the wall. He later completed a variation finish to the right as well.





The next 5 photos depict a couple different routes nearer the left end of the outcropping in the 5.8-10 range HERE.

A very rough version of the Harpers Ferry Bouldering Guide is now available for download. Not all areas are covered and I have included only Maps and Problem lists. The guide contains no directions to the areas, parking information, etc.

This wall is big!I ran into a new kind of snake to my travels at Harpers Ferry. This snake known as the Hog-Nosed Snake is not poisonous. It is very intimidating though b/c it hisses and flares a hood like a cobra!
